Disposing of Japanese knotweed and ragwort

You need to make special arrangements to dispose of invasive plants like Japanese knotweed and ragwort at your local household waste and recycling centre.

We can’t take invasive plants in our garden waste collections or in the green waste skips at household waste and recycling centres.

Ring your household waste and recycling centre before your visit to let them know you are bringing invasive plants.

You must put the plants in a sealed plastic bag before bringing them to the site.  Ragwort is poisonous, so you should wear gloves when you handle it.

When you arrive at the household waste and recycling centre, tell the site attendant that you have knotweed or ragwort so they can dispose of it properly.
